The Devil Queen

How my wife and I sold our souls to the Queen Anne Victorian we tried to save.

Location: Crow Mountain, Arkansas, United States

Synopsis: This is a cautionary tale. A seriously disturbed couple find the charming, old ruin of a Queen Anne Victorian in Russellville, Arkansas, and buy it for $1.00. They tore the roof off, cut it in half, and had it moved to some land they owned sixteen miles away because they didn't know any better. Since then, they have hired and fired contractors, had all of their tools stolen, re-wired, re-plumbed, insulated, and essentially rebuilt the entire house. Their only problem is that after four years it still isn't finished. Now they are tired, broke, and wonder what in the hell it is they've done to themselves. And, it's haunted.

Zombie March To and Through the Weekend

I'll be lucky if I make it home before I drop dead from exhaustion. I haven't gotten my sleep schedule back to normal since the holidays, and it is killing me. I'm not sure, but I think I may have slept 22 hours since Monday morning. I may start snorting espresso grounds to keep going before its over.

If I don't die before Saturday, I will work on the Queen. Ideally I'll try out my new glass cutter and patch the broken window pane in the master bedroom. If that doesn't take too long, I may try to install the kitchen cabinets. That will be fun. The kitchen in about an inch and a half out of square. Scribing the counter to fit sounds like a blast. I hope it is utterly uneventful, but what are the chances?

If the weather is as warm as predicted (60-70 degrees), we may give the claw foot tub its final coat or two of paint too. The weather has been damn weird this winter. If it keeps up, I may get the Queen's exterior painted before spring. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that idea. It's just not right.

Sunday will be a family day. My son's birthday is next Wednesday, but we're having the party Sunday so the out of town grandparents can make it.

On a side note, I wish I had this guys idea. He made a million dollars in four months without doing anything illegal. By the time I was his age, I was $17,000 in debt, had a useless college degree, and minimum-wage job in a coffee shop. Damn, I suck.
