The Devil Queen

How my wife and I sold our souls to the Queen Anne Victorian we tried to save.

Name:
Location: Crow Mountain, Arkansas, United States

Synopsis: This is a cautionary tale. A seriously disturbed couple find the charming, old ruin of a Queen Anne Victorian in Russellville, Arkansas, and buy it for $1.00. They tore the roof off, cut it in half, and had it moved to some land they owned sixteen miles away because they didn't know any better. Since then, they have hired and fired contractors, had all of their tools stolen, re-wired, re-plumbed, insulated, and essentially rebuilt the entire house. Their only problem is that after four years it still isn't finished. Now they are tired, broke, and wonder what in the hell it is they've done to themselves. And, it's haunted.

Too Little Too Late?

Last night, as I plodded through one small house project after another, I had to wonder if it was too little too late. At this point, it seems like no matter how many things get taken off the list, another half-a-dozen show up or refuse to be finished. At what point are you officially screwed?

Maybe I already am but haven't noticed? Behold the power of denial!

Death by house! I feel like I'm on the same page. Moving in 2 months and the dump's falling down. Nothing like a mile long to-do list to make you want to burn it to the ground.

Hang in there, you've done some great work already!

Remember, you don't own an old house, you are only its caretaker for a little while. Make sure the next caretaker doesn't always ask, "what kind of idiot..."

Nate, I missed your last couple of posts, so, when I read this comment, I had no idea why you were moving. And, now I do. Congratulations! That is friggin' awesome!

You aren't kidding about a mile long to-do list making arson sound good. God knows I've thought about it . . .

Lee, that is a very good point. I don't think we've done too much that is idiot worthy that we haven't gone back and fixed, but you never know.
