The Devil Queen

How my wife and I sold our souls to the Queen Anne Victorian we tried to save.

Location: Crow Mountain, Arkansas, United States

Synopsis: This is a cautionary tale. A seriously disturbed couple find the charming, old ruin of a Queen Anne Victorian in Russellville, Arkansas, and buy it for $1.00. They tore the roof off, cut it in half, and had it moved to some land they owned sixteen miles away because they didn't know any better. Since then, they have hired and fired contractors, had all of their tools stolen, re-wired, re-plumbed, insulated, and essentially rebuilt the entire house. Their only problem is that after four years it still isn't finished. Now they are tired, broke, and wonder what in the hell it is they've done to themselves. And, it's haunted.

A New Perspective

Saturday was beautiful.  Gideon, Scarlet, and I went to visit her dad for the afternoon. Among other things, he is a licensed pilot, and he took us up for a ride.  Flying makes me very nervous, but I figured what the hell.  It's was a good day to die.  Besides, he's an excellent pilot from everything I've heard.

Fortunately, I remembered my camera for once.  Here is the Devil Queen.

I'm glad I decided to go up.  It was a beautiful day and a lot fun.

What a neat thing to see your house from the air! Gives you a whole different perspective on it.

I, too, hate flying... but I try not to let it stop me. :)

Alas, if I can't drive or walk, I'm not going... The Devil Queen looks great from way up there!

Very cool way to see your house. You could take a bunch of pics and "collage" them together into a sort-of make-shift map, which would make excellent blog fodder :-)

Flying in a small plane is a very cool feeling, totally unlike the "flying bus" experience of a typical commercial flight.

She's a lot bigger than I visualized. Guess that's why she's the Devil Queen, not the Devil Princess! ;-)
